A neat side-by-side of the recently made version, next to one Cody and his grandpa made as a Christmas gift for Sam when they were kids (~2003). 

It's made from 5 aluminum pipes screwed together, central piece being left long for the handle, and cut at the end for the angled blade tip. For the blade edge and hilt guard, paint sticks were used + plenty of duct tape.
